What paint should be used while doing canvas painting?

On canvas two most common paints are used i.e. oil paints and acrylic paints. Acrylic paints are preferred over oil paints because they are easily available in the market. And also the quality of acrylic paints is outstanding and gets dried easily.

But oil paint is another winner in terms of thickness and it’s the only paint which is gluey in nature. It is perfect paint paired beautifully with canvas.

Can we paint directly on canvas?

Canvas painting

Acrylic paints can easily be used directly on unprimed canvas. But the surface of the canvas is absorbent, and would suck up a lot of paint. So just much better to first seal and prime with gesso before you paint on your canvas. This is the only reason you cannot paint with acrylic paints over oil paints.
